Our Story

Eddie Hughes along with his wife Lois and children Geno, Mavice & Ora and niece Joyce opened their Restaurant in July 1978, which is now the Oldest Continuously Family owned African American Restaurant in North West Louisiana. To date Eddie’s has never changed ownership, location or the phone number but has expanded expeditiously, now delivering our Stuffed Shrimp in most of the Local Grocery Stores and in several Speciality Stores throughout Louisiana. Prior to opening his own Restaurant, Chef Eddie Hughes, was the Head Chef the historic Freeman & Harris Cafe for over 35 years, it was there while working at the Cafe at the age of 16 Chef Eddie Hughes created the infamous original recipe of the Shreveport Styled Stuffed Shrimp.

 

Eddie’s Restaurant was featured in the October 2015 edition of the Southern Living Magazine as the South’s Best Soul Food in Louisiana, and also recognized by Louisiana Cooking Magazine May-June 2016 edition as one of Louisiana’s 7 th Best Shrimp Eaters for the State of Louisiana. Eddie’s family appeared on the Public Broadcast Radio with Poppy Tooker, food journalist host and executive producer of Louisiana Eats to speak about the long history of southern food and our Stuffed Shrimp. made a special appearance on the Food Network show with Chef Jef . We were also noted in the Shreveport Times. We have been recognized by the City Council, City Commissioners and the Shreveport Tourism Bureau. A SHORT FILM was produced by the Shreveport-Bossier Tourism Convention in honor of Eddie Hughes. Eddie’s Shrimp Creole was featured in this November 2016 edition of the Shreveport/Bossier Magazine and countless other magazines.
